Sports agents do not always have a good reputation: they are often accused of exploiting their athletes and managing their careers more or less honestly. Yet it is a completely respectable and indispensable profession. Many people interested in sports want to become an agent. Duties of a sports agent The agent manages the athlete's career: he selects their competitions, organizes training, tries to negotiate the best contracts and represents them in public. It also has a role in promoting its image, through social networks for example. The agent must be involved at all levels of the athlete's life, but is not a coach or manager, who are usually employed by clubs or federations.

At first glance, the job seems attractive: we participate in sports, we participate in events, we are the object of many demands, and so on. But taking actual action is another matter. There is no shortage of agents, some of whom have been with us for a long time. However, clubs often trust the same people, etc. So making a name for yourself is not easy! The first few years were not easy: it took time to make a name for yourself and build a good reputation.

The main function of the agent is to find contracts or jobs for the professional sportsmen he deals with. He manages their career and sometimes their money, he negotiates their commitment, their transfer, or even their participation in a major competition or a gala. In a way, he is an adviser who must guide his client in the most professional and ethical way possible. A large part of the work consists in being able to offer several alternatives so that the athlete can choose the club or even the country in which he wishes to exercise his talents.

The sports agent can also act as an advertising agent, depending on the notoriety of the athlete he represents. He can meet different brands that are likely to be interested in using the athlete's image. In some cases, the agent may also be mandated by a club to search for athletes.

This job is very demanding and requires a mastery of a wide range of skills including negotiation, legal, advertising sponsorship, and communication. The stakes are also very high, and a good sale must be prepared in advance by listening to the needs of the players and anticipating the expectations of the clubs.
